Namibia!

Namibia for a year?
Us?

Unbelievable.  These things don't happen in our life.
Oh my gosh, that means monstrous packing.
While we still can't quite fathom this is our life, with only 11 weeks until we go, we're working hard to get our trip organized and ourselves situated in Windhoek in time for the July 12th start of Polytechnic of Namibia's upcoming semester.
 There are:
  • vaccines to get
  • luggage limits to look up
  • visas to procure
  • Windhoek housing to arrange
  • impossibly small luggage limits to rail about
  • go/no-go stacks to create
  • textbooks to pack
  • a current household to whip into shape so our son can be put in charge
  • ludicrous luggage limits to be heatedly discussed with an airline customer service rep
  • And my gigantic, Excel workbook of a To Do List that will pretty much take the entire 11 weeks to complete.
In an idle musing the other day, the professor said, "I think we should expect to experience some anxiety surrounding our adjustment to Africa".
No kidding.

  1. the Excel workbook To-Do list may exceed the luggage limits all by itself, cuz!

I like the prof's summation - "some" anxiety, indeed.

  4. Wow, it really does look like the 'burque. Glad to see you posting, love your "dryer", solar powered drying at it's best! :)

    Miss you.

  5. First impression of the photos of the town is that it reminded me strongly of the bush town where I lived in Australia. I have used the same washer and dryer!--took some figuring to get the washer to work. So happy you arrived safely and are doing well.
All is well here--three job interviews and awaiting results. All in SLC
I will look forward to the next blog.

    Dear Lynn and Bob,
Oh my goodness, your apartment building looks great and your flat seems very nice. I can't wait for the next post. Get started on that solar power idea and also recyclable or re-usable shopping bags! Love, Peggy

  8. Hi, Neighbors!
I finally remembered to come to your blog, and am enjoying it immensely. I miss you, just knowing you're not across the street--but also comforted and reassured to see Evan's little purple truck in the driveway. I see that you use the same kind of "dryer" we always used, until relatively recent years! We still haul our wooden one out on occasion. Our first dishwasher hooked up to the kitchen faucet, like your washer. Sounds like our reusable grocery bags would be nice for you too. It's good to know that you got there and all settled in, and I look forward to keeping up a bit better now that I've found you!

    Love from the Wesners
